Tim Strabala
Dr. Strabala holds a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has more than 25 years of plant molecular biology/biotechnology research and development experience in both the private and public sectors. As a program leader of a New Zealand government-funded NZ$3.5 M research program, he oversaw the publication of more than 75 peer-reviewed research publications. Personally, he has authored or co-authored more than twenty peer-reviewed papers and invited reviews in journals and monographs, and he is an inventor on two biotechnology-related US patents. Dr. Strabala is currently the Principal Scientist in the New Organisms team at the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority, providing staff advice on new organisms, genetic modification and advanced biotechnologies, both domestically and internationally. He is currently New Zealand’s National Focal Point for the UN Convention on Biodiversity’s Biosafety Clearing House under the Cartagena Protocol for Biosafety.
